How Toy Shopping Should Always Be

Great customer service starts from the ground up. As a #TeamTELUS advocate, I’ve partnered with TELUS, a company obsessed with improving customer service every day, to share stories of companies across Canada that are showing us how we can all expect more. If you’ve followed me on any platform online, you know I have a favourite toy store. Jouets Choo-Choo has been a favourite of mine for years and years. Grandma MOE shopped there for my babies even before they were born!

Aside from the fact that they have the smartest, most educational and safest toys, there is another reason I love the store so much. Their customer service is second to none.

Shopping for toys can be stressful! You want to get something for your kids that they will like, and that they will enjoy for more than one sitting. But how do you choose? Even in my business with brands letting me know the latest and greatest out there, I still have to make an educated guess most times.

So when I go to Jouets Choo-Choo, I walk in knowing I will be able to get the best information on the toys and games they carry. They know every single item in their store and they can tell you everything about it. Whether it’s a classic toy or game, the latest prize winner from Protégéz-Vous or the most popular toy at the New York Toy Fair they attend, they know it all.

Lisa and Ari at the New York Toy Fair

I never feel rushed in their store, even when it is clear they are busy. The other day I walked in and one of the owners, Lisa, was giving me a detailed explanation on how a game worked. A new customer came in, so I assumed she would stop what she was doing to go to the new person. But no. She stayed with me and finished explaining. I was just as important as any other person there, even though I know her now and she could have very easily gone to help the new customer and I wouldn’t have minded.

Lisa and Ari (the other owner) are honest when it comes to toy shopping. If they think a toy is too young or too old, they will let you know. Which is so helpful since those recommended ages on the boxes are not always accurate. And now that they know my kids, they know what they like. The point is, they are not just trying to sell you. They want to make sure you’re purchasing the right item, by asking you detailed questions about the child you are buying for.

Ari playing…I mean testing a new toy!

I always felt that in order to work with kids in any way, including selling products for kids, you need to be a bit of a big kid yourself. Brother and sister team, Ari and Lisa are just that. They have great personalities, work flawlessly together, and play with the toys and games in the store! There is a Thomas the Train set up for the kids that come in, a Playmobil hockey set ready to play with too, and a few games near the front desk within arm’s length for them to play with their opponents, I mean, customers, big or small.

You can’t be in a bad mood buying toys, but when you go to Jouets Choo-Choo, you get excited about toys! I always walk out of their store feeling happy. And you know what else? I always feel like I have made the best decision on my purchase.

Thank you Ari and Lisa for the years of excellent customer service. Whether it’s Christmas, birthdays, or any other special occasion, you have always made me feel important in your store. I appreciate everything you do! You have a lifetime loyal customer in me.
