Adventure in the Old Port of Montreal – Voiles En Voiles is a Family Hit!

If you were to ask children what their favourite things to do are, on top of that list would be: climbing, hanging, swinging, and pretending. If you are looking for a place to combine all these things for your children, have I got the place for you!

In the Old Port of Montreal, you will find two giant pirate ships, anchored on land since 2015, just waiting for adventure. Voiles En Voiles (translated it means, sail to sail) is a fantastic activity for children as well as adults. A few years back, we took our boys and all five of us had an amazing time.

With summer is in full swing and activities available again after a couple of years paused due to the pandemic, we are heading back! This is one the best activities to enjoy right now, since everything is outside, and even more adventure has been added to the area since our last visit.

What Is Voiles En Voiles ?

Obstacle aerial courses are the main attractions in this themed amusement park, with rope challenges and zip lines. Voiles En Voiles makes you move your body, face your fear of heights, learn to balance yourself on different suspended pieces, and have the best time zipping through each level. Also available in the park are climbing walls, inflatables, water games, a pirate movie theatre, archery tag and an escape mission!

Is Voiles En Voiles for All Ages?

There are many levels to the aerial courses, and the youngest adventurer can be just three years old. The levels do not take height into account, so even if your little one is smaller, they can still give it a go. Each course is classified as easy, intermediate, expert or extreme. In order to try harder levels, you must complete easier ones first. For little ones, parents can stay with their child in the aerial areas that are just for them. These two courses are only two feet off the ground. After that, if they would like to try harder/higher courses, a parent will need to accompany their child, which will mean an adult ticket must be bought as well.

Safety First

I loved how organized and safe we all felt as we were prepared for this activity. Before heading off to the aerial courses, there is an important briefing for safety and to explain how to get around. There are trained team members everywhere and ready to help if anyone should get stuck getting to the next area. Each person is attached to a safety system and cannot be detached while on the courses. As well, everyone must wear a helmet. All safety equipment is sanitized after each use.

Imagination, Adventure, and the Thrill of the Challenge

What was so fantastic about this family activity, was the rush you felt getting to the next area. Cheering on the boys as they reached one place and launched themselves to the next was the best. They also felt proud after each course they completed. I can’t wait to get back to see how much further they will go since out last visit. Not only that, but there are also so many new additions to the park – we’re looking forward to trying our hand at the escape mission and the archery tag. Voiles En Voiles is not only for children. Many adults come in groups, couples head there for an adventurous date, and colleagues go together for a team building activity. This is a place you can come back to over and over again, to see how much further you can push yourself, or to just have fun and be a kid for a day. I love that there is something for every age group. Now that our boys are getting older, they are much more daring and want a challenge. Voiles En Voiles gives them plenty of that!

Pricing and Options

Our experience lasted a little over two hours on a hot summer day. We probably could have gone for more, but we decided to break for lunch. If you are only interested in the aerial courses, the prices range from $29 (3-5 years old) to $49 (6 years old +), with the option of family packages. These prices include access to all 10 aerial courses and the climbing wall for up to two hours.

If you plan to spend more time and enjoy all the other activities in the park, prices range from $39-$59 and give you all-access for up to four hours, again, with a family packages option.

Annual passes are also available, and prices range from $85-129 with family package options.

New Montreal Family Activity Subscription – Fam Club Xplo

If you want to have lots of family activity adventures in the Old Port of Montreal and beyond, there is a budget-friendly option. Fam Club Xplo gives you access to over 20 activities. You can register yourself to this subscription of $15/month (with an initial registration fee of $75) and cancel at any time. The good news is Montreal has pretty incredible activities year rounds so when the summer activities close for the season, new fall and winter activities are ready to go. To see a list of activities, visit this link.

As a family of five, we are always looking for deals for local family-friendly activities because they can get pricey. This subscription is perfect for families that love trying new activities and getting outside to have fun.

Just as a reference, I broke down our future activities we plan to do in the next two months so you can compare:

  • Voile En Voiles for five people (four hours)– $295
  • Pedal Boat at the Old Port (3 pedalos, each hold two at a time) – $117.45
  • Quadricycle (for one hour, holds five people) – $78.30
  • Aquazilla (aqua obstacle course) at Oka Park – $140

This would give us a grand total of $630.75 and this price would be a one-time deal.

With the Fam Club Xplo, with registration and two months only, the price would be $525, but you would then have unlimited access to these activities and much more. It is worth checking out, especially if you plan on doing a few activities, or one activity more than once this summer.
