Ah, Montreal in the winter. For the most part, I love it. It’s beautiful to see the snow glistening off the trees, making a snowman with my children, going sledding and skiing. Yes, winter is wonderful in Montreal.
Who am I kidding?
The above description of a perfect snow day in Montreal is very limited due to the extreme cold temperatures. Skiing on a well groomed run when the weather is mild is a little piece of heaven, but you’re likely to be skiing on solid snow, or even ice, in the dead of winter here, with a nice gust of wind to boot.
Today I woke up to see that the outside temperature was -24.9 °C. What?! I can’t rationally understand leaving my house for anything when it is that cold. I sent my little one to school today but to be honest, I would have liked to keep him home. He loves school so it wouldn’t have gone over well. At any rate, the school informed us that the children would not be going out today for recess or lunch.
I guess I should be used to it. I grew up in Montreal and lived in Canada most of my life. When I was away from Montreal, I missed the change of season and the snow during the winter. And there were times when bella Italia was just as cold as here without the snow and bright skies. But I still get a shock to the system when the day starts out at -24.9 °C.
So, if you can gather from my mini rant on the weather, I am a mama who loves summer. I long for a beach to walk on as soon as I have to put on a sweater. I reminisce about my childhood family vacations in places like Florida and Cape Cod. And if there is anything that would get me outside in -24.9 °C weather, it would be to get myself and my family to an airport to fly to a warm and sunny destination!
Thomas Cook contacted me about a smart new section on their website called Kids First, devoted to family friendly destinations. The best part? It’s the children that give the reviews! How great is that? Just as mama bloggers write honest reviews on products and services, now children have a chance to post reviews (that are, of course parent approved) on their experiences in sunny destinations.
If you are a parent, you know that traveling with children is a challenging task. From planning to packing, to arriving to your destination, each step is that much trickier when you are traveling with children. Well, Thomas Cook is a great resource to help you get ready.
They’ve even prepared a Thomas Cook Kids First Welcome Package. The welcome package includes:
- $50 Prepaid VISA Gift Card (so great!)
- $25 Indigo Gift Card (to pick up some colouring books, new children’s books, a magazine of two)
- $25 Shoppers Drug Mart Gift Card (for travel essentials before your trip)
- FREE Seat Selection (great for families with babies or larger families)
- FREE Airport Lounge Pass (always handy for a diaper change or a snack)
(now for my favourite part…)
Guess what? One of my lucky readers will have the chance to win a Thomas Cook Welcome Package!
Open to Canadian residents only.
