New BOGS Fashion Styles (not just for kids!)

If you have been here before you know our family is a big fan of BOGS boots. Ever since the boys were young, they have been our go-to for every type of weather that Montreal throws at them.

I never worry if they will be cold, I know they last at least two lifetimes for hand-me-downs and I know they are waterproof for those rainy or slushy winter days. They have been perfect for their school days and when they play for hours outside in the snow.

(L-R) Snownight ($90), the new Classic winning designs of the drawing contest, Unicorns by Brinkley Drews and Donuts by Julia Soelberg ($100)

I couple of years ago, I received the tall BOGS boots you all know for myself – those galosh-type looking boots with the handles. I needed something in the country when we were going for long walks in the forest, or for when I just wanted to slip on something to get from point a to point b in my leggings. They have been great, and I still use them frequently, but when it comes to every day use, it isn’t really my city style.

So, imagine my surprise when I was introduced to the new BOGS designs this year (as seen in the first picture above). Some without handles, or the galosh-like style, these were proper, fashionable women’s boots. And while I enjoyed the different looks, heights and colours, my top (and frankly only) question was, “but will it keep me warm in the winter?”.

I don’t know if you are like me; it isn’t that I am cold in the winter, I actually suffer from the cold. My extremities are constantly cold to the point where I have been envious of people who can go out and enjoy the weather. Thankfully, BOGS not only designed new boots for men and women, they kept their amazing technology and bumped it up a few notches, making these new designs even more weather proof and yes, warm.

The Freedom Lace BOGS boots come in gray, cognac or taupe, at $180 CN

The Freedom Lace in taupe is what I have been wearing for a few weeks now in all weather (November in Montreal has it all) and they are comfortable, light and rated for temperature of -30°C. And don’t let that cute little soft material in the back fool you, all BOGS boots are 100% waterproof. Yes, even the area on the kids boots that has those cute patterns. There is a neo-tech material that provides waterproof insulation.

Other improvements to the BOGS boots include:

  • Durafresh technology that activates to fight odors (this mama of three boys is THRILLED about that).
  • The boots are now 33% lighter – great for the kids because the first versions were on the heavy side.
  • Max-wick technology pulls sweat away from the feet – also a great feature for those that sweat more. (Another pro tip for this is bamboo socks.)
  • Metal-free– anyone that travels knows this is a great feature for airport-friendly wear.

The Quality Topic

Now, I know that many have told me they prefer to get cheaper boots for kids since they grow so fast, and to this I say, do what works for you. However, for my family, like I mentioned, I know I can hand down my oldest’s boots to one of the twins and then even down to the other twin since they all have different shoes sizes. Children’s winter boots range from $100-130 CN depending on their style. The quality of BOGS allows us to benefit two to three life cycles. For that reason alone, I feel like the quality is over and above the price.

Just like my clothes, my outwear needs to last not only in style but in wear and tear. I’m really happy with the Freedom Lace ankle boots. I can where them with jeans or dress pants, as well as leggings and thick socks. It gives me lots of variety and the taupe colour goes with almost everything. It was also nice to find something to add to my wardrobe that wasn’t the staple black colour. The zippers on the inside allow me to zip and go without adjusting the laces, but the laces give that more fashionable look.

So if you are in the market for a new pair boots, and you want something that is long lasting, high quality and will keep your feet warm, I recommend BOGS. There are many more style for women, men and children. To see their new collections, visit www.bogsfootwear.ca

I need a new pair of boots. My pair from last year leak at the bottom, learned that the hard way when we had an early snowfall this year.
The pair like is the Arcata Knit Women’s Snow Boots.

I rarely (if ever) reward myself with anything. However, I’m in desperate need of a new pair of winter boots. I’m still wearing my everyday shoes in the snow. I had a nice pair of Columbia’s that fell apart, weren’t entirely comfortable, and whose laces never stayed tight, especially around the ankle. The Freedom Tall’s are my bag.
