I had mentioned a while back that the UBP11 really opened my eyes to the large community of women bloggers. Well, with that great experience, I brainstormed and came up with my own mini version of that here in my hometown of Montreal.

After beginning my part-time venture of selling children’s books, I met a lot of women in the same boat as me: stay-at-home moms, very busy with the kids, but wanting an outlet to engage with other women and have their strengths shine. Starting a business while being a stay-at-home mom sounds exciting and it is! But, there is still the need to actually work. And work we do, but how effectively? The more women I met, the more I could see a similar concern. Most women were on the fence if this was actually a good thing. Not a lot of time leads to not enough time devoting to networking yourself enough and you are only as well known in your business by the amount you show yourself and your product or service. Some women I met were thinking of calling it quits.
So, after an Usborne meeting about exhibits, I decided, why don’t I coordinate an exhibit? I wanted to get all the women I met with great ideas/products/services and put them all together in one place. It would allow us all to network and meet each other and of course, meet potential clients that we might not meet otherwise.
The more I put the word out, the more women I met, and they were all getting excited. What began as four or five women has turned into 22 women and they are as varied as they are fabulous!
To make things even more rewarding, I added another aspect. When I realized how I could round up so many women with common goals and passions, I decided to give back. My children are why I got into selling children’s books. They adore Usborne Books and I love being able to get them free books as a consultant! So, because my children are my whole world, my charities were decided upon easily. The three places that have helped me and my children since their existence are The Montreal Children’s Hospital, The Lakeshore General Hospital Maternity Ward and the Royal Victoria Hospital NICU. I will be forever grateful to all three for their help. This is my way of giving something to them in return for everything they have done for us.
With the event a week away, I wanted to write this post to all the vendors set to attend (some of who I met write here in the blogging world), all the sponsors who have given their time and donated in amazing ways and to all the women who are planning to come. Our community is great and strong and we MUST support one another. I hope you all have a fabulous night and I hope we can raise a great amount for the charities. And I truly hope to make this an annual event filled with excitement, fun and amazing women!
