I’m a #BabyGourmetMama {Review & Giveaway}

It was my first year into blogging and adoring the platform that is Twitter, and I got a little into giveaways. My very first incredible gift that I won was from Baby Gourmet. If you are not familiar with the brand, Baby Gourmet is a proudly Canadian company that has created organic snacks and meals for babies and toddlers.

I was an instant fan of the company and the products, and so were my children. The original Baby Gourmet simple purees were the perfect snacks to pack for playdates, long drives or waiting rooms. My kids ate those delicious puree combos so fast, I soon was back at the grocery store replenishing our fridge.

Over the years, I have had the pleasure of working with Baby Gourmet on the blog. In fact they were a big sponsor a couple of years ago for my charity event, SFTH.

Well, I’m happy to let you in on a few new additions to the Baby Gourmet family!

Since we fell in love with Baby Gourmet years back, the collection of products has grown. Here is the run down:

Cereal – These came along after my babies were out of the ‘first cereal’ stage. I now recommend them to new mamas. Made with wholegrain cereals, they do not contain dairy or soy and are made from North American grains.

Purees & Combos – Harvest pear, pumpkin and bananas was the all-time favourite at our house (it just sounds delicious, right?!) My boys gobbled that up. The other combinations are just as delicious, and they range for ages 6 months and up. Other combos for older babies even include kale, risotto, and quinoa. And since they are combined so well with sweet fruits and vegetables, kids enjoy eating things you might not even attempt to try! More textured combinations are also available once baby is ready for more protein and texture (like veggie beef Bolognese and pasta stars).

Squoosh – these are the number one snack we have at our home. The snack-sized pouches are perfect for school and my kids love every single flavoured combo. The boys also get a kick out of the names: beetberry, squabbleberry, spinapple and orangobango. When these are on sale, I stock pile them and freeze boxes of it. And by the way, freezing them in the summer for a snack is perfect too. They become a slushy-type snack full of only healthy ingredients.

Mushies – created for self-feeders, these are freeze-dried, melt-in-your-mouth organic snacks and my kids enjoyed them all. Granted they are for toddlers, but they too are also a great addition to keep in your bag for a sudden starving child at a doctor’s office.

Slammers – Geared at older kids, with cool flavour names and fun designs on the snack pouches, Slammers are superfood smoothies that have one full serving of fruits and vegetables, has a boost of protein (yogurt). While Epic and Awesome where not my boys’ favourites, we offered their friends to try them and they couldn’t get enough. So it’s worth trying them out to see which flavours your children like the best. And they will have a favourite. A tip to keep Slammers fresh longer – freeze them and send them off frozen to school. By lunchtime, they were thawed out and ready to devour.

The Story Behind the Brand

Now celebrating its 10 year anniversary, the company Baby Gourmet began with two sister entrepreneurs, Jill and Jen, who wanted to make wholesome and healthy baby food for children. Between the two of them, they have 6 children and they wanted to offer them good choices from the start. They began this adventure buy selling locally at a Calgary farmers market, and now have created a business that has distribution across Canada.

My favourite moto that Jill and Jen follow is one that I do as well “if it’s not good enough for our kids, we will not feed it to yours”.

One Step Further

Because it was one of the first things I wanted to know, you will be happy to know that the packaging of the snack pouches are BPA-free and the caps are recyclable.

There are no added salts or sugars to any of their foods which is the main reason I love them.

To check out all their products, as well as all the flavours of the snack pouches, visit the Baby Gourmet website and the Slammers Snacks website.

My oldest 2 are great eaters, who will try anything, although my toddler currently is refusing to touch green beans. I think its just a stage because she loved them before. Hoping my littlest is just as good of an eater when he starts solids next month!

Tomato – she keeps telling us we should eat it, but she won’t try it. Even though she loves ketchup…hmmm…I should tell her what ketchup is made from.
