The older I get, the more I see that not all people experienced the unconditional love of a father like I did. To me, that’s so sad.
Here are a few things that struck me with my Dad:
- I could call him at any hour of the night if I was lost on my drive, or needed to hear his voice while I drove. He was my personal GPS because he knew Montreal like the palm of his hand. And he got me home every time. And if I had had too much to drink, he would pick me up, no matter what time it was.
- He was proud of everything I did. I remember I was painting a single colour of a background on a canvas for a piece I was going to do when I was in the arts program in college. He went on about how beautiful it was. It was one colour. But he said the way I did it, with strokes and shades, made it beautiful. That’s a proud papa.
- He enjoyed life. He LIVED it. He tried new food, he experienced new culture, and he challenged himself with different things. To see that growing up every day shaped who I am today.
He’s passed and I miss him every single day, and if it’s possible, more so on Father’s Day. He would have loved the kids and spoiled them, and showed them all I saw in him.
Father’s Day is another hard day of the year. We used to go to the local fish monger and get lobster (his favourite) and have a big meal and enjoy each other’s company. Fresh vegetables from his monstrous garden were also part of the meal. It was a way of starting off summer with smiles and deliciousness.
I do this now in honour of him, with my children and my husband. Papa MOE is a father to our children that my father would be proud of. I am. He’s not a man of many words, but my husband shows his love every day to the boys. It’s a beautiful thing to see.

Being there for your children, and serving an example of what a father is. It’s important for Sons to have a good role model, and for girls to have a good role model of what makes a good man.
To me Fatherhood means helping a little person or persons grow up to be the best that they can by guiding their life experiences and of course giving them more freedom then mom does.
Fatherhood means being the type of person that your children can love and respect. Being there for your kids no matter what.
Means being a part of your kids lives and teaching them.
